Patient Preoperative Instructions (Anesthesia)
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT
If you have been prescribed a scopolamine patch, please place the patch behind your ear the night before surgery, as instructed by your surgeon’s office.
Please drink plenty of (non-caffeinated) fluids the day before surgery.
Take your normal medications the night before/morning of surgery with a small sip of water (see exceptions below):
Please do not take certain blood pressure medications on your day of surgery if your surgery is scheduled for General Anesthesia. With General Anesthesia, medications to be held on the morning of surgery include both ACE Inhibitors and Angiotensin Receptor blockers. If you have high blood pressure, please contact your surgeon’s office if you’re unsure of either the type of Anesthesia you’re scheduled to receive or the types of blood pressure medications that are advised to be held).
If you take oral diabetes medications, please do not take them on the morning of your surgery.
If you take multiple oral diabetes medications, as well as insulin, please follow the recommendations of the prescribing provider regarding those medications.
If you take Plavix, Aggrenox, Pradaxa, Coumadin, clopidogrel, dabigatran, dipyridamole, warfarin, or any other blood thinners, please follow the recommendations of your surgeon or prescribing provider.
